On Friday 12 October, the comedian Milton Jones gave a charity show at Cambridge Community Church (C3) in support of the Shelford and Stapleford Youth Initiative (SSYI – see www.ssyi.club).
Milton is regularly on such TV programs as Mock the Week and Live at the Apollo and has had many series on Radio 4.
The Jazz Band from Duxford Saturday Workshop played at the show, as described by their leader, Stephen Inglis…
Huge congratulations to those of you who played on Friday at the Milton Jones gig. It was really was a great performance, really tight, and it fully deserved the enthusiastic cheers from the 500 strong audience. I’ve been part of the Duxford jazz crew for many years and in my opinion it was without doubt our finest hour (well, 25 minutes anyway) from both a musical and a sartorial perspective (picture, courtesy of Philip, attached). Sincere commiserations to those who had to miss it – Ed, Andy – but very special thanks to our deps for the evening, John, Adrian, Simon Wilson and Simon Fothergill. Having a complete big band line up filled out our sound wonderfully (drawing praise, even, from Josh Kemp) and helped greatly to made the evening very memorable indeed. Thanks also to Catherine, for delaying her trip north for a wedding at the weekend in order to lead the band so ably (hope you didn’t miss too much of the celebration!). And finally major thanks to Chris Cooper who provided the introduction to SSYI and hence the opportunity to play.
